 How do you choose the right environmentally-friendly products? The key is to know the lingo. We've rounded up the most common terms and their definitions in our handy guide below. Pre-consumer content is production waste (scraps, etc.) that is repurposed into new products. Post-consumer content is made from waste that was recycled after consumer use (aluminum cans, etc.). Recycled means an item is made from previously recycled materials. Recyclable means that the product can be recycled when you’re done with it. Greenguard Product is certified for low chemical and particle emissions that meet indoor air quality pollutant guidelines. Carb Compliant complies with the air pollution standards set by the California Air Resources Board. SCS Certified Product has been certified for recycled content and meets the most stringent standards for providing measurable and significant environmental benefit over typical products in the same category. Gold certification ensures that individual’s exposure to VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) does not exceed certain levels. Level – Developed by BIFMA, level is a voluntary certification program in which third-party auditors measure a product against the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability Standard. Products can be awarded level 1 (silver), level 2 (gold) or level 3 (platinum) conformance mark based on the combined score achieved in their sustainability evaluation.
 Keep an eye on entrances. Have a receptionist or security guard near doors to welcome guests. Closed-circuit cameras and intercom systems may also be used with locked entrances so that personnel can identify visitors before allowing them into the office. Keep a visitor's log. When visitors arrive, have them sign in and note their time of arrival and who they're coming to visit. When they leave, make sure they log out and note what time they left. Issue temporary badges to visitors.
Print brightly colored "VISITOR" stickers on badges for guests so that they stand out. Require employee ID badges. If your company is large enough that every employee may not know everyone else, issue photo badges for employees and contractors and require them for entrance so workers are easily identified. |
